"After years of motorbike racing, heavy fitness program's and breaking many bones, including my back twice, I decided it was time to retire with what little health I had left.
Wanting to keep my fitness levels up, I started looking for something that had a low impact on my body, when a friend introduced me in 2000 to Ashtanga yoga.
From that moment I was totally absorbed by everything yoga.
I soon realised that yoga is not just a fitness regime - it was so much more.
Just two years later I gained a 200hr Registered Teacher Training Certificate,
from Synchronicity Yoga and Ed Clarke's Tripischore Yoga Centre
and started teaching classes at a gym in Ramsey, Isle of Man,
also offering One-2-One classes.
To expand my knowledge and experience I travelled to Bali to study with Pranashama yoga, gaining a 500hr E-RYT Certificate from Pranashama Yoga Institute. also becoming a qualified Thai Yoga Massage Therapist.
At this same time I worked closely with Conor Cummins the world famous motorcycle road racer who had had a near fatal accident in the Isle of Mann TT races.
He had set his goal on riding the same event just one year later (featured in the TT Closer to the Edge documentary DVD extras). This, we managed to achieve with time to spare.
I now work closely with many motorcycle racers including 5 time world enduro champion David Knight, road racers Dan Kneen, Conor Cummins, sidecar legends Craig Melvin and Stuart Christian, and world enduro champions Daniel and Jamie McCanney.
I also worked with Ramsey rugby club on fitness, rehabilitation programs managing to win our way to the Manx cup final in our first year.
I have managed the teacher training program for Pranashama and have taught at all the Pranashama teacher training programs in Hawaii, Bali, Costa Rica.
I teach regular retreats and workshops in all aspects of yoga including: Vinyasa, Yin, Mantras, Kriyas, Meditation; Breath Work (Pranayama); Partner Yoga and Thai Yoga Massage Therapy on the Island all year round.
Corporate packages and full sports psychology and fitness programs tailored to each client.
"Some people know exactly who they are and what they want to do,
the rest of us go through life accepting the things that happen to us,
as one thing leads to another, we fall into life choices that are driven
by external events.
One day we realise that the dreams and ambitions we once had for our lives have been replaced with something much less exciting, inspiring and rewarding"
If you want to restore the passion, purpose and fun in your life, and you are ready to make a change, you are already halfway there.
With Dave Smyth Yoga you are never a beginner and never the expert.
Everyone's yoga journey is a beautiful evolution of the self, and a rediscovery of the joy that exists within us all.
Dave's yoga style is an open yoga style fusing together the most powerful techniques from vinyasa, ashtanga, yin, thai yoga, acroyoga, kundalini, qi gong and dance. Dave incorporates asanas, mediation, mantras, kriyas, as well as many healing and transformational techniques from psychotherapy, hypnosis, rebirthing and much more.
Dave's unique style of blending one asana (posture) to the next, synchronised with the breath into a constant flow of movement.
It is more than a simple set of physical manoeuvres, it is an outward expression of the subtle movement of Prana (life force)
With each step you take Dave is there with a smile, words to encourage You when you need it.
